I did not realize of how much I was influenced by the Mediterranean atmosphere of Barcelona and the summers spent in the Costa Brava since childhood until some reflection with art journalist N. Hermida in Oviedo in 2016. The sea and the water is as driving force for my creation and I learnt to use it as a source of inspiration.
Love is a smoke raised with the fume of sighs; Being purged, a fire sparkling in lovers' eyes; Being vexed a sea nourish'd with loving tears: What is it else? a madness most discreet, A choking gall, and a preserving sweet. – Romeo and Juliet. William Shakespeare
Nil is a very special and fundamental character in my body of work. He has always been there to help me represent this moments of relaxation and moments of pause. Therefore, I honored him with several unique piece larger bronzes.
There is a point of intrigue that can be breathed in each sculpture... it shows that reality is at the service of a story, a dream, an illusion... I try to approach it subtly with this iron and bronze sculptures, the main character of my stories are very everyday elements and situations.
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful and magical shop called Vinçon inside a modernist building by Ramón Casas in Passeig de Gràcia, Barcelona. Inside the shop there was an art gallery hidden like a secret treasure and every Christmas, a group of artists were asked to make their best collection with one of a kind small artworks to be sold there.
Now the shop does not exist anymore and every Christmas when I pass the Ramon Casas building my eyes moisten, and I think about the beginning in 2000 when things were small and simple.
